Relative Surprise

When a young American woman turns up unexpectedly on the doorstep of a famous British artist, he is in for more than one surprise. She’s a budding artist and very gregarious while he is renowned for being a recluse who jealously guards his privacy. Just getting in the door is somewhat of an achievement! Of course, had her portfolio contained only examples of her art then the encounter would have been very brief indeed. But there was something else.... ..something that was very unexpected!

Starring Emily Landham and David Payne.

Shadowlands

Thanks to the hugely successful stage play and movie Shadowlands, the story of C S Lewis and his wife Joy has become almost legendary. Lewis was in his mid fifties and was already a famous author, a tutor at Oxford University and a confirmed bachelor when he one day received a letter from an American woman. Little did he realize that this letter would lead to a series of events that would turn his life upside down. With a mixture of delightful humor, deep emotion and touching poignancy, Shadowlands - brilliantly written by British playwright William Nicholson - traces this wonderful story of true love and the triumph of the human spirit as it rises above the ordeal of terminal illness.

Cast Of 9 Note: This play is presented with the cooperation of Samuel French Inc who publishes this script and licenses it accordingly

St Jack & The Dragon

St. Jack & The Dragon is set in Oxford in the late 1940’s and the famous author, C.S Lewis (Jack), lives with his brother Major Lewis (Warnie) at The Kilns in Headington, a village just outside of Oxford. The house is run by Mrs. Moore who is Jack’s adopted mother. Minto, as Jack calls her, can be very abrasive and thus the house is often in uproar. House maids come and go in quick succession and once more the house is maid-less. Once more Minto is to interview a new maid, only this one is American so both the Lewis brothers are hopeful that this maid will prove more resilient than the previous ones. If she is, hopefully a period domestic calm can finally reign at The Kilns.

Weep For Joy

Weep for Joy is a touching, often humorous portrayal of how C.S. Lewis met, fell in love and married his American wife, Joy Gresham. It’s about how they laughed and cried together, how their faith was tested to the limit as they faced the terrors of cancer and how they both emerged from this experience with a greater understanding of life, love and the giver of both.

Target Practice

Inspired by C.S. Lewis’ Screwtape letters, Target Practice is a uproarious, yet perceptive, musical set in the Academy of Fiends. Professor Nausea has but one aim – to teach his class of young fiends the art of tripping up Targets (humans). Temptations are their primary tools and each fiend must be schooled in their most effective use. This would be relatively easy if there wasn’t an enemy who is very skilled at thwarting even their best efforts. Thus the battle of overcoming good is very demanding, never ending and many times very frustrating. With a class of unruly fiends and a cantankerous tutor, the dialog is fast, furious and often hilarious, the songs energetic and the choreography absorbingly unique.

The Magician's Nephew

Now, Digory is the last kid you'd pick for the soccer team, let alone an epic adventure. But when his friend, Polly, is whisked away to the dead land of Charn by his uncle's magic ring, someone's has to play hero...and he's it. Rescue missions, however, can get complicated, and soon it's up to Digory to save Polly. Before they know it, they are both whisked off to the magic land of Narnia where they join forces to help Aslan defeat the evil Queen Jadis.... and all before bedtime!
